Aethelgard – Anewabyss’s First Journeys

Peril, Promise, and the Pursuit of a Foothold

It is said that Anewabyss, driven by a profound need to comprehend the extent of the cataclysm and the true nature of Aethelgard, embarked upon extensive reconnaissance. They circled major swaths of land, diligently exploring and discovering a wealth of resources and tools essential for survival in this untamed realm. Among these finds was a curious, ponderous hammer, unlike any weapon ever conceived by mortal hands. Though its substantial weight and deliberate swing seemed alien to Anewabyss’s agile style, they quickly became impressed by its sheer effectiveness in defending against the newly emergent monstrosities. This formidable, if uncharacteristic, weapon swiftly proved invaluable.

Anewabyss’s early explorations illuminated the harsh realities of Aethelgard. Accounts tell of a near-fatal encounter with an Illager who wielded arcane ice magic, almost freezing the Immortal solid. This chilling experience served as a stark lesson, cementing Anewabyss’s realization: they needed to settle into a secure location and establish an infrastructure to better equip and supply themselves for the trials ahead.

Their cautious search for a suitable home led them past many grand, formidable locations, sites that seemed beyond their current means to effectively claim or settle. However, persistence is a virtue rewarded even in chaos. Anewabyss eventually came upon a small group of villagers—outcasts, it seemed, from their own struggling community, perhaps themselves displaced or marginalized by the widespread catastrophe. Their desperation, like Anewabyss’s, was palpable.

A New Alliance and a Search for Sanctuary

Anewabyss, ever keen to understand the intricate tapestry of Aethelgard, listened intently to the tale of the two outcast villagers. Their story was one of hardship that predated even the recent cataclysm. Their small, struggling village had already faced a severe population collapse, forcing many of its inhabitants to flee east, seeking refuge in a much larger settlement. This larger settlement, perched on vast, rolling, rocky, wind-swept hills, was known as Stonehaven Reach. It was familiar to Anewabyss, as they had passed by it during their initial scouting, noting that it had sustained only marginal damage from the widespread destruction, implying a strange, almost selective nature to the recent cataclysms.

The two villagers, weary but hopeful, confessed their desire to find a new home—a place far more lush and vibrant than their former desolate village, and certainly more appealing than the stark, exposed Stonehaven Reach to which their kin had fled.

Anewabyss, recognizing a mutual need, extended an offer: “I need a home as well,” the Immortal is recounted to have said, “I will help you settle a new place, and I will offer you my protection. In return, you must help me gather the resources I need to establish myself.” This was a pragmatic alliance, born of shared vulnerability and a common desire for stability in a world turned upside down.

A Sanctuary Found: The River’s Embrace

With their newfound companions, Anewabyss set out once more. Their search for a perfect home led them deep into an ancient and mysterious forest, a realm of towering, gnarled trees and shadowed undergrowth. After days of careful scouting, they discovered the ideal location: a secluded spot nestled just off a flowing river.

On their side of the river lay the heart of the vast, ancient forest, offering abundant resources and a sense of deep, primeval calm. Directly opposite, on the other side of the river, rose massive, looming cliffs. These natural ramparts provided formidable protection from the relentless, wind-swept plains beyond, offering a natural barrier against both the elements and unseen dangers. Despite the forest’s immense age and the potential for unknown threats lurking within its depths, Anewabyss felt a quiet confidence that this location was defensible. Its rich resources and undeniable beauty sealed the decision.

Here, in this secluded, well-protected haven, Anewabyss decided to establish their foothold in Aethelgard. The Immortal immediately set to work, and their two new companions, Elara and Theron, eagerly joined them, all laboring together to carve out a new beginning from the wild heart of the world.
