This is a 3D-printable keelboat kit inspired by the Lewis and Clark expedition and designs featured in popular TTRPG sourcebooks. Designed specifically for FDM printers, this kit offers a fun and engaging build for miniature enthusiasts who enjoy painting and assembly.
For optimal detail, the included oars are best printed using a resin printer and are provided as a bonus.
This design prioritizes ease of printing, especially for beginners looking to enhance their 3D printing skills. Minimal support is required, limited to the cabin door frame and benches. To avoid supports on the benches, simply flip them during slicing, though this will eliminate the woodgrain detail.
I welcome feedback and photos from anyone who prints this model and am happy to provide support for any printing challenges.
3D Printing Dimensions (approximate):
- Front Hull: 103 mm x 174 mm x 12.7 mm
- Rear Hull: 98.8 mm x 131 mm x 12.7 mm
- Cabin Walls: 92.6 mm x 58 mm x 30.5 mm
- Cabin Roof Top: 96.4 mm x 62.6 mm x 2 mm
- Cabin Roof Bottom: 83 mm x 47.4 mm x 3.02 mm
- Ladder: 10.6 mm x 31.7 mm x 2.08 mm
- Mast: 10.2 mm x 10.2 mm x 55.2 mm
- Bench: 25 mm x 7.76 mm x 4 mm
The cabin roof features a snap-fit design between the top and bottom sections for a secure, removable roof.
Using a Creality Ender 5 Pro with Ultimaker Cura set to “Super Quality,” I was able to fit both hull sections on the build plate. Expect approximately 7 hours of print time per hull section, and another 7 hours for the remaining components. Ensure proper retraction settings for optimal results. At this quality setting, the oar holes do not require supports. Results may vary with different layer heights.
The oars are exclusively recommended for resin printing. Remember to mirror them for a complete set. They are intended for display near the cabin windows, but feel free to customize their placement.
